To realize the product or service the following activities are normally carried out:
1. Planning of product realization: a set of activities at the heart of product
    realization which include:
  • determining quality objectives and requirements;

  •
  • determining the processes necessary for product realization together with the associated resources and documents;

  •
  • determining verification activities and acceptance criteria for the product;
Planning is closely related to each of the following groups of processes necessary for product realization.
2. Customer-related processes aiming at identifying customer needs
     and requirements

3. Design and development processes

4. Purchasing

5. Production or service provision including verification

6. Control of measuring devices

Although these activities may be carried out by different functions in the Organization (such as Marketing, Design and Development etc.), they form part of a network of interrelated processes. Some of these processes result directly in products – the so-called "product realization processes", while others are "support processes" that do not result in products but are necessary to the Organization and add value indirectly.

Examples of support processes include:

  • managing information,
  • training,
  • finance-related activities,
  • infrastructure and maintenance,
  • application of industrial safety/protective measures.
