1. Searching
A search engine has been made available to make
your job of searching our database of over 1 500 records on Ethiopian
Standards and drafts as simple as possible. In addition, a search
can be done on QSAE testing services (capabilities) that comprise
of over 550 specific tests on various materials and products.

2. Search Ethiopian Standards Catalogue/Work
Programme
You can use the search facility in all pages except
for searching testing capabilities of QSAE labs, which is located
under the ''Testing'' section of this site. Ethiopian Standards
catalogue/Work programme can be searched using
the standards number or keywords fields.
a) Keywords
Enter word(s) in the keyword field: you can type
more than one term - the search will find Ethiopian Standards and
Drafts at all development stages that contain both words in the
title or scope of the standards.
For example: Type 'air' to find all words
containing 'air' - Examples: aircraft, airline, airship, air-drying
Entering two or more terms within the keywords field
automatically creates an "AND" search.
A wildcard is added on the right and left hand sides
of your search criteria, so the search will find any record that
has the word you have entered anywhere in it.
b) Standard Number
Enter a number in the number field - the search
will find Ethiopian Standards and Drafts at all development stages
that contain that number in the document reference.
For example:
- Use '9000-1' to find document references
containing '9000-1'
- Use '900' to find document references
containing '900' such as 900-1, 9001-1, 4900, etc.
Standard number shall be entered without the preceding
designator, i.e., simply type in the standard number (e.g., ES 525:2000
or 525).
In the cases of adopted (identical) international
standards, enter the number of the international standard (e.g.,
14014 for ES ISO 14014:2001, 45 for ES OIML R 45:2001).
A standard number usually, but not always, consists
of a beginning alpha part, a middle alphanumeric part (often just
numeric), and a final year date, e.g., ES 525:2000, ES OIML R 45:2001.
For Working Drafts (WDs), Committee Drafts (CDs) and Draft Ethiopian
Standards (DESs) the number is in the format WD, CD AND DES respectively,
e.g., WD 5049, CD 5214 DES 4246, etc.

3. Zero Hits
Please note that if you get 'No results'
hits from a search ( e.g.,Your search for '50492' returned the following:
No results), it is a valid answer for the search carried out. However,
there may be one of two reasons for this. One is that your search
criterion was incorrect, in which case check your search for errors.
The other possibility is that the database does not contain a standard
or draft on that topic.
Note: The format of document numbers has recently
been changed. Previously numbers were written as ES S.J2.002:1990.
Now the number is written as ES 122:1990. The engine recognizes
only the current form of the document number.

4. Replaced Standards
The search is only for current Ethiopian Standards
and drafts. Details regarding status of withdrawn documents is found
under the ''Withdrawn standards'' subsection of this site.
It should be noted that in some cases, although a
standard is withdrawn (with or without replacement), it can still
be used for legislative purposes, e.g., mandatory product certification
use.

5. ICS
The International Classification for Standards (ICS)
scheme is intended to serve as a structure for catalogues of international,
regional, and national standards, other normative documents, magnetic
and optical media. It is specially created for standards and is
used by all standards bodies to classify their standards (and standards
projects) into specific subject categories.
It is intended to facilitate the harmonization of
information while helping you find the standards that you want.
The numeric codes are in the hierarchical format NN.NNN.NN, e.g.,
43.080.10. To search on a complete ICS code, enter the code in the
form NN.NNN.NN. To search on part of an ICS code, enter the number
followed by an asterisk '*'. e.g. searching on "67*", will find
all the ICS codes beginning with "67".

6. Technical Committee
The reference number of the QSAE technical committee
that is responsible for the Ethiopian Standard is indicated in standards
search results. The number takes the form QSAE/TC A/SC B, where
A and B are numeric characters. The number directly after the 'TC'
and 'SC' indicate the committee responsible for the development
of the Ethiopian Standard.
