QSAE operates well-equipped and modern
testing laboratories capable of carrying out vast number of tests
(presently about 580) in the following fields of testing.
The scope
of testing services, PDF 554 KB, for the laboratories
is increasing in products and parameters from time to time. Currently,
testing services are provided for the products stated herein.
The whole range of testing services
of QSAE can be searched by fields,
class and sub class of tests, and tested items. Highlights
of the kind of materials tested are also indicated under each
of the four testing fields below.

The mechanical field of testing generally
covers the following products.

The testing laboratories provide
an impartial and cost-effective service aimed at supporting government
procurement efforts, industry and other users. In addition, the
laboratories undertake tests as part of QSAE's own certification
services and standards development programs.
QSAE is at present vigorously working
towards accreditation of its testing laboratories based on ISO/IEC
17025 in selected testing fields/areas where international recognition
is most required.

Under the Testing
Laboratories Group four laboratories are established that
handle the following fields of testing.
Electrical testing laboratory
Chemical testing laboratory
Mechanical testing laboratory
Microbiological testing laboratory.
The last three of these laboratories,
currently, are being prepared for accreditation.
Standards (procedures) used
The laboratories strictly apply established
standard procedures only for testing purposes. In selecting methods
of testing, priority is given to Ethiopian Standards provided
that they are available; otherwise international standards, other
national ISO member countries standards or equivalent test methods
like AOAC's (Association of Official Analytical Chemists) and
ASTM's (American Society for Testing and Materials) etc. are used.
