INFORMATION
IS POWER!
ICT & standards information
Information and communication technology
(ICT) is not just a fashionable trend soon to be forgotten.
The importance, development and
application of this technology are increasingly reflected in day-to-day
reality and in the management of activities in daily life, in and
out of the office.
The revolution that has taken place
and still is taking place in the field of telecommunications and
information technology can be seen in the way people live, work,
write, ask for and get information, or even think: business, education,
health, social and cultural activities are some of the fields most
affected by the introduction and use of these new tools called computers,
e-mail and the Internet.
It is obvious that such a revolution
affects and conditions the world of standardization too, forcing
all the national and international standards bodies, including QSAE,
not only to accept this challenge, but also to get properly equipped
in order to face it and to keep abreast of the times.
Information on national and international
standard is absolutely vital to industry government bodies, consumers
in general and other user groups in new products development or
design conformity assessment and other related applications. Hence,
the role ICT plays in standards development and provision standards
and related information has become indispensable in providing access/retrieval
of information efficiently and effectively.
Available information
Each national standards body manages its own collection
of standards and has access to the collections of other institutes.
It places this collection at the disposal of the economic players
and proposes a range of services. These may include:
- free information tools or services for identifying
standards or for announcing new standards: catalogues, newsletters,
Web servers, etc.;
- chargeable services for access to the normative
texts in different forms: subscription, hardcopy form, CD-ROM,
etc.;
- notification or subscription services for regular
information;
- technical assistance, including to exporters.
The range of information services
provided by QSAE covers most of the above mentioned functions. For
more information, go to Available
information at QSAE.
